So far, the project has no name, as I've yet to develop any form of story. The only part of this project that I've completed is the engine behind an all new type of RPG system for WC3/FT. The entire Engine is based on triggers, therefore there are no locations involved in the entire system. At my current progress in programming it, it includes a VERY original creep respawn system, of which I've never seen in any other maps, as well as a HUGE unit sizing edit (Units smaller, trees/buildings bigger). Basically my goal is to create a series of maps that involve the same RPG Engine, characters will be saved and can be used across all of the maps.
It is an Open RPG project that has no level restrictions, and also offers a unique item. A 'GM Token'. When this item is found at it's VERY low drop rate from ANY creep. A player may save it in their inventory, or sell it to another player. It allows the user (1 charge per token) to assume GM rights to the current map. GM rights include changing ANY variables in the current map such as creep respawn rate, the range at which a creep will respawn, weather conditions, and even the ability to add new creeps to any location. The GM rights DO NOT make the player invincible, or give them any ability to cheat, it basically just gives them the ability to change the current map around as they like, and increase/decrease the difficulty of the map. This will give the players to chance to control the world they play in.
While the engine itself still has much progress to make before release, all I'm really here to find are fellow programmers/mappers that are willing to help out and design/add content to this project. I will NOT be looking for beta testers until I reach an alpha release point in development. However, I do see this being a very large scale project that will span over the development of several maps, constantly releasing new ones to keep the series going.
I will open a website for the people involved in developing this engine, and will be posting screenshots/videos of the progress, and will include EVERYONE who contributes in the credits of the map.
So here's a list of everything/everyone that I am looking for help with...
- Mappers - Willing to develop an entire map that is creative and fits for a general Open RPG with no real story, just endless play.
- Programmers - Anyone who has a unique feature to add to the game, may give me their ideas and we can see how far we can go.
- Classes/Unit Creation - I need several classes/units to be created, all including abilities, stats, and a balanced RPG level structure.
- Quests - Any quest ideas would be greatly appreciated. Pitch your idea for one, and we can discuss incorporation into the game/map.
- Items - I'm hoping to have a vast selection for items for the players to choose from. Being an endless game, we will have many updates increasing the items so that players will never find the 'strongest' weapon in the game.
Anyone creating a map, please remember to focus on different level ranges. All maps that are created must include a level range for the players, i.e. The Dark Forest (13-38) would be for players level 13-38. The reason for this is simply so that we aren't cramming millions of creeps into a map that range between levels 1-200. The various areas in each map can be as large as possible, including various towns (not just one town). This will give players a feeling that the world they exist in will be very large, and will separate the higher level players from the lower ones.
I'm even thinking of including a few 'battlegrounds' type maps where players can load their characters into it simply to join teams and PvP for awhile with no XP gains, just gold, or perhaps PvP gear much like that in WoW.
Reply if you're interested, just please don't tell me that this is too big of a project, or that I'm an idiot for wanting to do this, because I know that this is possible. If you're the kind of person that has to put me down for an idea like this, then you're just not the kind of person that can be of any help. This project will easily be one of the biggest series of maps to hit Battle.Net (other than DotA, lol) and I'm hoping for the best.
Thanks|||This sounds awesome. I will help in any way that I can.
I can send you a map I'm working on right now if you want to get an idea of my terraining skills. I am moderately skilled in triggers, but not so much in JASS - it's been one thing at a time with JASS. So far I only know the delete trigger function, make all AI insane function, and the music list function. I can learn more JASS if need be.
I also appreciate that you're typing in good English - that is a MUST for a good campaign. :)
Anyway, let's talk. If you would prefer to discuss this over email, I will message you with my personal email address.
I hope to hear from you soon!!
TE|||You know, it's really weird - I was thinking about this exact concept last month - being able to change aspects of the map while in-game (ie, GM powers). It's a really awesome idea, and will be comparable/better than the existing online games that most/some of us know of (UO, WoW). I think we can do this if we really want it.
The GM token is gonna be super difficult - just thinking about all the triggers that will turn on when the token is used gives me goosebumps. Then there's the problem about how the player will be able to actually target units and change their abilities/hp/mana (we're probably gonna just do this through abilities - use existing hp/mana enhancements from items, and make those for units). It's gonna be limited, but it is doable. Hell yes.|||hi, this sounds interesting...in fact i had the same idea of terraining like u said...small units, big objects :), for me i am creat ing a world of warcraft that is just like that..but i didnt know about this until i did my own lol...
but if you need someone to help with your terrain, just reply back because , my speacilty is with terrain, i make things seem real when im at the keyboard ...lol
Check out Chapter One the Shire, one of the first maps i ever made :)
