I have an idea for a new custom map. Just wanted to get a few opinions before i start creating it.
Warcraft III map idea.
2 teams. 6 players per team.
The Story
5 years ago In the rage of the first world war, the land of Faelon ceased all communications with the oustside world. Faelon's Soldiers build a great wall around its borders later called "Gods Wall" due to its indestructible nature. Word spreads of towns, villages and then entire cities outside of the wal that have been destroyed within a single night. All units carrying out investigations outside of Gods Wall have failed to return.
Over time a cold front develops over Faelon and continues to spread. And what was once the sound of raging battles outside of these walls all is to be heard is dead silence throughout the night.
4 days ago Gods Wall has is breached by numerous Sapien forces, they have slaughtered the entire northern cities and we are forced to retreat to the southern borders with little survivors.
From what we can tell most of the Sapien forcers are yet to come.
Those of us who have been left behind seem to be infected with some sort of Sapien virus. All we know about the virus is that those who are infected mutate into some sort of hybrid.
Today we build task force to help liberate Faelon and to build forces large enough to combat the Sapiens. Our only hope is to be well prepared before they arrive...
Player types
Each player has specific duties to attend to during the game.
The Commander
In charge of major decision making, when to attack, what to build, where residents can build, where the clans money can be spent etc.
The leader will be in charge of how your group income is spent, on buildings to improve your economy, Sanatoriums/Hives to help the wounded. War Quarters to improve your skills etc.
Your leader will also be in charge of when an assault is held against the opposing clan.
The Warrior
Heavy type armour, bloodthirsty, battalion leader. In charge of battle tactics, commanding and training soldiers.
The Engineer
In charge of constructing your neutral, defensive, and offensive buildings, radars, transport and artillery, also in charge of commanding builders and workers.
The Healer
Light attacker, in charge of healing battalions, training and commanding healers.
The Phantom
Solo Unit, very stealthy, fast moving, long range, teleport from place to place. Turn into a bird. Ability to see into the distance, AoE Spells, Group Buffs. no melee)
The Seeker
AKA, beast tamer. Has the ability to tame wild beasts and use them to fight along his/her side. In charge of training the beasts and commanding them.
With all that said you cannot act on many decisions without the leaders consent. For example a builder cant build a sanotorium without asking the leader. And the leader needs to provide the income.
Buildings
Different buildings have different functions, and are required to unlock different features within the game. There are two types of buildings, the ones you can personally build. And the ones the civilians would like to build.
Player Buildings
These are the building that your team can choose to build at any time during the game.
Fortress
The Commander, Warrior, Engineer, Healer, Phantom and Seeker all need a place to reside. Some say if a hero should fall in battle his spirit remains attached to the fortress, and if their will is strong enough, they can rise even from death.
Farms
Its main function is to provide food for your clan, by providing food for your town you will also increase the interest of civilians.
Civilians will pay for food.
Sanatorium / Hive
Not only will sanotoriums enable you to heal your wounded characters and increase their health capacity, but it is also a great attraction for outsiders if they need to be healed.
Infected Civilians will pay to be cured
War Quarters
Here you can learn new abilities for your clansmen. These abilities will prove useful but the main source for great talents will be learnt from those civilians who have a few talents of their own.
Blacksmith
Increase the power of your weapons and armour. Add various attributes to your items.
Blacksmiths need to find ore somewhere. This could be a great source of income for your town.
Saw Mill
You need wood to build things, and you need to chop down trees to create more open land so you can build. Simple?
Civilians will need somewhere to buy wood if they decide to build. You will also need wood to build.
Civilian Buildings
These are not buildings that you can personally choose to build. A civilian may want to build something during their time in your town. They can only build if the Commander permits it.
House
People living in your town will need a place to call home, if you do not grant a civilian permission to build a home in your town, they will move elsewhere.
Shop
People need to make a living; this is a shop that will sell all sorts of item that could be of interest to you.
Tavern
A place where people can come and rent if they need a place to live, or just spent the night. Great little income generator.
The Land of Faelon
The world your clan has come to call home. Throughout the land you will come across many things such as;
Towns
Towns appear all over the land. They are usually very small and consist of a few people, some houses and maybe a store of some type. By visiting these town you will find many types of civilians.
Wildlife
Their is a vast amount of wildlife throughout the land and there are 3 different types. they can be killed to obtain loot, to train your character, or just for fun. The Seeker can also train certain tupes of wildlife.
Beasts
Beasts can be tamed and trained by the Seeker and become a great asset to his/her force. Some special beasts have their own unique abilities.
Critters
Critters are usually found around towns, they like to hang around where there is food. They will not attack you, nore can be used for attacking, but they can be killed. They will usually come and go as they please, however if your town welcomes critters it is a great attraction for families.
Monsters
Unlike beasts they cant be tamed. They usually are harder to kill than beasts and drop more valuable loot. Monsters will continue to appear all over the land and continue to spread. Most monsters like to stay far away from any people but if their food supply (critters) starts to thin, they will be looking elsewhere for food and your town could be next.
Civilians
The more attractive your town becomes the more likely you will gain visitors. Having visitors is the best way to build your clan. Civilians will play a big part in your towns revenue and help build greater armys.
Normal civilians will be attracted to the people of Faelon and of course civilians that have been infected will be attracted to the sapiens.
For example a civilian may want to live in your town. They could offer a large amount of money to build a House there. Who knows they may have children who you can train as a warrior. Or the builder himself may have some skills handy for your clan.
Civilian Types
There are a few different types of civilians, depending on the type depends on what they are qualified for.
Civilian
General civilian, can hold objectives, knowledge and items
Infected Civilian
Infected civilians have been infected by the sapien virus.
Child
By sending a child to school they can become any of the following.
Fighter
Specialises in combat. Could be an asset to the Warriors battalion once trained
Tradesman
Specialises in trade work. Could be an asset to the Engineer in construction.
Blacksmith
Specialises in heavy metals will most likely get a job mining ores.
Doctor
Specialises in medicine, if trained correctly can become a great asset to the Healer.
Lumberer
Likes to chop trees, will most likely get a job at the Saw Mill
Training Civilians
Civilians may specialise in a field but they lack experience. The easiest way to train a civilian is to get them the experience they require.
For example if a The Warrior player would like to turn a fighter into soldier he could take him out with the battalion and kill a few creatures. When the fighter has had enough experience he will become a soldier and be ready for action.
Note: The fighter will not attack any units until he becomes a soldier. That goes for Doctors not Healing and Tradesman not building.
Objective Civilians
Some civilians contain objectives for you to complete in exchange for rewards, these civilians can be found scattered all over the land. If you approach them correctly they could be your next clan member.
Recruiting Civilians
Recruitment is handled differently between the two teams and again depending if the civilian is infected or not.
Resistance
You can recruit Civilians and have them join your force just by talking to them. Possibly performing taskes to sway them.
You can recruit Infected Civillians a little differently, you will need to send them to your sanotorium to be cured of the virus before it spreads.
once they are cured you can recruit them as normal.
Sapiens
Recruiting is simply done by talking to an Infected Civillian, since their already mutating its not hard to convince them to join the darkside.
Recruiting Civillians who are not infected hapens a little differently, you will need to take them to your Hive so you can infect them. once they are infected you can recruit them.
Players
Not only to you share the land with your fellow clan members but you also share the land with the oposite team. You may encounter the other team in various locations around Faelon.
Items & Artifacts
These can be found all over Faelon, some har hidden in various parts of the land, others can be obtained by completing objectives and looting wildlife.
Income
Income is gathered in two ways, by completing objectives throughout the game, Its the leaders job to complete all of the objectives. These may include, sourcing items for some local residents, you may need to kill pestering critters, whatever they may need you to do all for a healthy reward.
Some objectives may require you to construct something for the people (engineer to order his men to build it), or get something from a high ledge (phantom to turn into a bird to fly up and get it). Of course in these occasions the leader will require the help of another player to complete the objective.
Hint: Phantoms could also be used to scout out the map quickly to find the location of certain items and critters
Another way to gather income is by killing creatures most creatures drop loot which can then be sold or used.
