Ok, the message above is the text which will be on our website: www.warcrafthero.com
But because the website isn't completely finished yet, i will explain the map a bit - HERO is an AoS (two teams of heroes) map with a lot of popular gameplay modes combined. Featuring an item-upgrade system (like in AoM and DotA), custom skills system (like in Custom Hero Arena and TGS) and the ability for players to hire and upgrade the units that spawned for their team every interval (like in The Great Strategy and XAoS).
However, the systems in our map are improved compared to the systems in the maps i just mentioned.
- The item system doesn't require a free inventory slot to finish a recipe/upgrade.
- The custom skills system doesn't use overlapping hotkeys, and provides the possibility to choose ANY skill combo.
- Recruiting units for each team's spawn uses dynamic prices for each unit. This prevents players from hiring a lot of cheap and weak units which feed the enemy easy gold and experience. Instead, it forces players to think about what they buy and focus more on upgrading the hired units.
HERO also contains over a dozen different gameplay modes from other maps, and some completely new and original ones.
The map is currently in semi-playable beta version. All the systems mentioned have already been written (in JASS ofcourse) although some still need to be imported into the playable beta map (it takes roughly a week per system).
What we are especially looking for is people who like to invent or create hero abilities/skills and items/recipes. We also need someone who is good with icon-art. And if you have any experience with balancing stuff then we also like to know your opinion on the map.
Anyway, if you are curious or you would like to help us make this the best map possible, please leave a message or whisper me in-game! (Europe/Northrend gateway - screenname: Phyrax)|||I'm impressed by your ambitions. But I have one question...
Whats the point of making another DotA?
Even if you actually succeed in making an AoS map that is slightly better than dota (which would take an amazing amount of effort), DotA still has this huge fanbase, fame and reputation that you really cant fight against.
I dont see the point in spending so many hours on an idea that already exists, you will just end up disappointed. I've seen so many people making maps just like DotA, spending hundreds of hours on them, and nobody plays their maps.
why not make something original instead?|||I have noticed that many player find something that is original to be too much effort to figure out. A lot of players (probably children, but thats the reality that we have to deal with) will react to an "original" map by leaving in the middle of the game, which of course sucks since it tends to imbalance the game (no matter how you try to compensate for lost players).
There is a certain "safety" in sticking with formats that most people readily understand.|||Not entirely true.
AoS, Tower Defense, Hero Defense etc were all new types of original gameplay when they came.
But yes, some people tend to leave when playing new types of maps. Most of the time those people are not much fun to play with anyway.
As long as you give the players some general instructions, they can explore the new type of gameplay, something i believe most people enjoy. Learning and improving is what I believe makes most games fun.
Anyway, good luck with your map|||Quote:

Making another DotA? Get your facts straight before saying something stupid like that. So where did you get the impression that our map is anything like DotA?
The *only* thing that DotA shares with our map is an advanced itemsystem, and ours is better. The other main features of HERO aren't even in DotA at all. The only similarity i can think of, is that both maps are the AoS genre... But if you think that makes HERO like most other AoS maps, you obviously don't know the map.
HERO is not slightly better than Dota, but much better (imho). You are right about DotA having a huge playerbase and stuff, but we aren't doing it for the money anyway. I will promote HERO as much as possible once it is finished, hopefully it works out. It definitly has potential, so time will tell.|||My apologies if i appeared a little rude in my last post, i just don't like it when people call our map a DotA ripoff when it's totally different... Unlike DotA, HERO is original. So if you would like to be a part of it, don't hasitate to speak up.|||That's a risk with being creative.
If you are recognized as the first owner of an idea, then you are given value. But if you are believed to have thought of something that has already been thought of before, then you are disrespected with the accusation of plagiarism.|||Well, i don't mean to sound cocky but just to make it clear: HERO is like the best parts of other AoS maps all combined into one map. Not by using the best features of other maps and stealing them, but by improving the concepts and adding a lot of new stuff to them and finally fitting them all together into the most challenging gameplay possible. There is no other map like it.
We have been discussing this map for several years and we have been actively working on the map for over a year already and only a short time ago we started putting all the systems together in the beta map. So this isn't a joke, this is really what we are making. And the most difficult game systems are already finished..
So now you know, this map is unique and it might just become the most popular map ever. We will do our best. Who wants to help us?|||i am in for it.
just tell me what to do
mail me at pieterbuelens@hotmail.com if u want.|||I'm sorry if my previous posts were provocative.
The fact that you have been working on this map for over a year makes me quite curious.
So what are they new features in this map? Is there a concept map I can test?
